In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
 Sudan has long known professional councils, which are institutions with a strong history in the development of various professions. The National Geological Council is one of the most recent councils in Sudan for one of the oldest professions. The 19th March 2015 was a remarkable day for geologists, where the National Geological Council Act was approved.
The Council was formed in accordance with Article (4) of the Council's Act for the year 2015, which was approved by the National Assembly in Session No. (3) of the its First session on 15 June 2015. The powers and functions of the Council were in accordance with Article 6 of its Act in order to rationalize, prepare, train and classify the workforce in the geological sectors and fields.
The Council was formed in its first term, which was 4 years by the resolution of the Cabinet issued on 29 September 2016. The resolution noted the appointment of Dr. Omer Mohamed Kheir as The President of the Council, Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Abdul Rahman as Deputy President, Dr. Mohamed Abdelwahab Mohamed Ali as Secretary General, Dr. Samia Abdul Rahman Ibrahim as Registrar and 26 members representing ministries, government bodies, university representatives and expert geologists.
The Council performs its work to achieve its objectives and mission through 4 committees; (1) The Committee for Registration, (2) The Academic Committee, (3) The Professional and Disputes Committee, (4) the Committee for Training, Information and External Relations. The tasks of these committees include the setting of the general guidelines and the preparation of the plans of the session of the Council, the annual plan and follow-up and evaluation of plans through the approval of performance reports of the secretariats and departments of the Council, approval of policies and regulations in the framework of achieving the strategic objectives of the Council. The technical committees of the General Secretariat also provide advisory and planning support and provide the intellectual environment to support the decision by furnishing the Geological Council with all modern information technology means to build a solid and comprehensive database that provides reliable information to facilitate the planning process and accuracy of decision making and thus the quality of training and services provided. Each Committee set its framework, plans and mechanisms for the implementation of the plans to achieve the objectives of the formation of the Committee concerned.
Finally, we are pleased to inform the geologists inside Sudan and the Sudanese geologists abroad that we are now in the finalization of all the requirements for the commencement of the work of the Council provided for in its Act. The next few weeks will witness the registration of geologists.
